Displaying In Your Home

We all have poster stamps stored in albums or on cards in boxes hidden away on shelves. It’s too bad they aren’t displayed in the house for everyone to see. Now some of us assemble display boards for shows and competitions, but they aren’t something you can put on a coffee table.

Sooo…I was at a family get-together not long ago where one of my cousins passed around some photos that were enclosed in these little acrylic frames. Nice! They were thick enough to stand on edge and we ‘displayed’ them at the buffet table.

The best part is the photo is sandwiched between two 3/8″ acrylic blocks held together with tiny round magnets embedded in the acrylic. Very cool. She told me she swaps the photos as she takes new ones, so the display is always changing.

I thought to myself, why not use these to display poster stamps. They can be put anywhere in the house and can be passed around without damaging them. It’s especially easy to arrange the stamp in the frame. Position it where you want, hold the other half of the frame over it and they literally ‘snap’ together. Not much chance for the stamp to move.

Some may ask if they are archival, and I’m afraid I can find no description stating they are. So you probably don’t want to display your rarities (at least not for very long, and not in the sun). I did cut some Hawid transparent sleeves for some stamps to see how they would look. Interestingly they do look nice, like little frames within a frame and will provide some measure of protection. I only leave them out for a few days and then change the stamps.

I particularly like die-cuts in the frame. The shadows that are cast by the stamp and the reflections are really interesting.

I’ve been putting various duplicate poster stamps in them and stand them on the coffee table. I like looking at them and people ask about them. Now not everyone might be attracted to what I like, but who doesn’t enjoy nice and striking illustrations?

I believe they are available in maybe 8 sizes, up to 5″x7″. The best part is they are not terribly expensive and can be found through Amazon or places like Crate&Barrel or even Walmart for about $8.               –Steven Greiczek
