Turn of the Century Beer Set
This pane is not a great rarity, but is uncommon in intact & undamaged form. It is about 8.3” by 11”. Roughly translated to English the top margin says: “EBERL-BREW. The most drinkable, wonderfully digestible beer from MUNICH/ In bottles with premium vouchers [coupons] everywhere/ Cold Eberl Brew, Head Depot Dresden.”
Eberl is also advertising their Sparkling Water in the top margin and on some of the stamps (Sprudel).
Printed in multicolor, the border shows the traditional Bavarian symbol of blue checks, with the Top text in black and scarlet red. Inscription on the stamp bases F.M. Lenzner, Stettin, is the printer. But also in the pane bottom margin are the initials D.R.G.M, meaning unknown.
In modern parlance, Eberl Brau is establishing their iconic brand logo of a large boar leaping through an oval and light-hearted themes in the stamp art. At this time consumer companies in both the US & Europe were busy adopting this sort of branding consistently, to help with recognition from customers, and poster stamps were handy that way.
